Hi there,
Welcome to the first issue of the Watering Can. Each week, I’ll be sending out a small care task to complete for your business.
These tasks will typically take no more than 15 minutes. They’re intended to lessen some of the cognitive load associated with running a clinical practice.
You can subscribe to the podcast feed in most podcast players (which largely consists of me reading the weekly task to you), follow along on YouTube (same thing), or read more about the care task in your email inbox when you subscribe here on Substack.
Where relevant, I’ll share tips and resources to make the weekly care task a bit easier to complete.
If this sounds helpful, please subscribe!
Warmly,
Camille
p.s. I’m in the process of gathering my list of business care tasks. If you have one (or many!) that you’d like to see me add, please reply directly or comment on this post.
💌 This week’s care task: review your website’s contact page
Go to your website’s contact page.
Is the text on this page correct and clear? Does it indicate how quickly someone might expect a reply? Update if needed.
Test out any email addresses, contact forms, and/or phone numbers listed. Fix any problems.
Yay! You did it. Leave a comment letting me know how it went to receive your gold star for the week.
🌟 Bonus activities 🌟
These aren’t necessary, but if you have extra time:
If you don’t have a contact page, consider adding one. People like it, and they do use it.
If you don’t have a contact form, consider adding one instead of simply listing an email address or phone number. This makes it easier for potential clients to get in touch. Use UpWork to hire someone to help you if you aren’t sure how to create/add a contact form to your website. Test it out several times to be sure it’s working!
Check your contact page on a desktop/laptop, a tablet and at least one mobile device. Sometimes the page looks great on one and not so great on another. Make updates as needed.
Review the copy on your contact page for tone. Does it sound like you? Does it convey an energy that aligns with your practice values? If not, update the copy to add a bit of personality. Even adding something like, “I love questions. Don’t be scared to reach out!” or, “Don’t hesitate to use this form. I check all replies personally and generally get back.” can go a long way toward making this page more welcoming.
Are there certain questions you get repeatedly? Consider addressing them proactively on your Contact page.
For example, I often get questions about whether XXX herb is safe to use while [pregnant/breastfeeding/etc.] When I added a short note on my contact page that says, “Unfortunately, I cannot answer questions here about how/whether to use supplements or herbs in your particular case, whether an herb or supplement is safe for you, etc. You can schedule an herbal/nutrition consult (for questions about your health, herbs, or supplements) or set up a 1:1 mentoring session (for questions about your practice/business) if you'd like personalized advice :).” I stopped getting these questions entirely. Yay.
Some people add a FAQ section to the contact page with information that might be helpful, like how to schedule an appointment, when herbs are shipped, etc.
