June Care Task #4: Clean/Organize your work space

Hi there,

It's time to tidy! When you're working hard, it's easy to find your desk cluttered with books, notes, and whatever other detritus collects. (Somehow I have a few dozen paint swatches on my desk from several months ago?)

This week, we'll take a few minutes to organize your working space, to wipe down any surfaces, clean your keyboard, and make sure that the space is comfortable for you.

Don't go overboard - this is meant to be a quick spruce-up rather than a deep clean or an interior design project 😅

Warmly,

Camille

💌 June Care Task #4: Clean/Organize your Work Space

  1. Tidy your desk: Clean off the surface of your workspace and put things back where they go. Recycle, file, or sort papers, and take out the trash.

  2. Wipe surfaces: Dust and clean your desk, keyboard, mouse, and screen and any other equipment on your desk. (See links below for cleaning tips!)

  3. Check your lighting: Make sure your workspace is well-lit with natural or soft white light. Adjust lamps or window coverings to reduce glare and eye strain.

  4. Adjust your chair and desk: Ideally, if you have a seated desk, your chair allows your feet to rest flat on the floor or on a footrest with your knees at about a 90 degree angle. Your forearms should rest comfortably parallel to the floor.

  5. Optimize computer setup: Set things up so your monitor sits at eye level about an arm’s length away. If it's too low, try putting a few bigger books underneath as a temporary fix. Use an ergonomic mouse or keypad if possible to reduce wrist strain. (I got both of these last year, and it's made a huge difference for my wrists/hands!)

  6. Add comfort touches: Is there anything you could add to make your space comfortable or inviting? Would a rug, a candle, a plant, a cushion or wrist rest, etc. make your space more functional or enjoyable? Would it be helpful to get a larger monitor to use at your desk rather than squinting at your laptop on longer work days?

You did it. Congrats! Leave a comment letting me know how it went to receive some gold stars.
